Knife crime: sharp facts
THERE has been a 30 per cent decrease in offensive weapons crime since 2006-7.
In 2000-1, there were 5,209 crimes of possessing an offensive weapon in Scotland, but latest figures for 2009-10 show this has dropped to 3,839. There was also a 22 per cent decrease in offences of possessing an offensive weapon in 2009-10.
In Strathclyde, last year, there was a 26 per cent decrease in crimes of possessing an offensive weapon.
However, confiscations of knives by Scottish courts have risen sharply, up to 2,030 weapons in 2010, compared with 311 in 2007.
