Key dates in the history of Edinburgh's Odean cinema
August 25, 1930: The New Victoria cinema opens with a premiere of Rookery Nook.
1964: The cinema is renamed the Odeon.
1982: It is subdivided into several smaller screens.
2003: In January, Odeon announces plans to sell the building. Sir Sean Connery is among those to protest, but it is bought by DHP and closes in August.
2005: Temporarily reopens as a Fringe venue.
2006: DHP unveils a succession of plans for the site - student flats and bar/restaurant; nightspot; boutique cinema, before settling on a hotel.
May 2010: Following complaints from Historic Scotland, the government reporter says nothing should be done until the building has been remarketed.
