Kerr's birthday gig at Castle
SIMPLE MINDS frontman Jim Kerr is planning to celebrate his 50th birthday with a gig for 10,000 fans at Edinburgh Castle.
He said: "I'm not normally a birthday person, but next year I'm 50 so I thought, 'I want to do something really special'.
"I didn't want to be in Frankfurt or Stuttgart so I said, 'Get me somewhere good'."
The legendary musician – known for hits that include Don't You (Forget About Me) – celebrates his birthday on July 9, but was not able to secure the castle until nine days later.
He said: "Edinburgh Castle on July 18 – I'm really looking forward to that. I'm up for working on my birthday because on stage is where I get the biggest buzz and I wanted a big, big 50th party."
