Kelvingrove museum opens again

ONE of Scotland's most popular museums was reopening today after a mammoth three-year refurbishment.

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow has undergone a 28 million transformation which provides a third more floor space as well as shops, a restaurant and state-of-the-art conference facilities.

When it closed on June 29, 2003, the huge Victorian building attracted more than one million visitors a year, making it the most visited museum outside London.

Kelvingrove will now house 8000 works of art - up from 5000 objects in the museum before the refurbishment works.
