Kebab shop staff's race attack hell
STAFF at a kebab shop in Midlothian are reported to be set to ask the Turkish government for help after a series of racist attacks.
Fikret Aydin, 39, who manages the Golden Field takeaway in Mayfield, is said to claim the verbal abuse and physical attacks had made working in the shop hell.
Turkish community leader Kasim Yilmez was reported today to say the police had been "really understanding" but told him they were short of officers. He said: "If there are no improvements I will be going to the Turkish consulate in London."
A crackdown on antisocial behaviour in the area resulted in 13 youths being charged with racially-aggravated breach of the peace. But it is understood increased police patrols are due to be scaled down again.
