TEENAGE catwalk star Jourdan Dunn has been named model of the year at the British Fashion Awards – capping a meteoric rise to fame which began only two years ago.
The 18-year-old, from London – who was discovered while shopping with a friend in Primark in 2006 – has been hailed as a trailblazer for challenging the dominance of white models on the catwalks.
She said: "London's not a white city … so why should our catwalks be so white?
"I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and look around there's just me and maybe one other coloured face."
She has since featured on the cover of the fashion bible Vogue, and was the first black model to appear on the catwalk for Prada in a decade.
