Jolomo picture raises £10,000 for charity
DESPITE the recession, an original Scots painting made £10,000 at a major charity auction.
The painting by John Lowrie Morrison, who is better known as Jolomo, of Winter Falls On Linlithgow Palace, below, was commissioned by First Minister Alex Salmond for his 2007 Christmas card. It was auctioned on Friday evening for the Scots charity Who Cares? Scotland.
The painting, which depicts a full moon shining over the palace ruins and the adjacent St Michael's Church, was donated by the artist to the young people's charity. Two prints of the painting were sold for more than 1,000 at a fundraising gala dinner held by the charity in November last year.
Who Cares? Scotland is a voluntary organisation working with and for more than 1,500 young people in care.
John Lowrie Morrison said: "I am delighted to donate Winter Falls On Linlithgow Palace to Who Cares? Scotland and I hope that the monies raised by the auction of the painting will help the charity with the great work they do."
The auction of the painting at the Prestonfield Hotel in Edinburgh was attended by Jolomo and a host of VIPs including Scots business leaders and celebrities.
Johnston Press, which publishes Scotland on Sunday, had agreed to match the auction price up to a value of 2,500.
