Joe Strummer's last Christmas card unveiled
THE final painted Christmas card by the rock star Joe Strummer is being used to raise money for the charity set up in his name.
The Clash star died seven years ago tomorrow, and his family and friends were due to receive his illustrated cards on the day he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Now charity Strummerville – The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music – has reproduced the image with the family's blessing.
The moonlit image shows a sailing boat being swept across silvery waters, with headlands and islands illuminated by beacons and campfires.
Strummer himself was a big fan of campfires, and his annual visits to Glastonbury Festival would see him and his friends gathering around the flames to chat.
The card is being sold at www.strummerville.com
Strummer, who was 50 when he died, was co-frontman for The Clash, and was credited with giving the punk movement a political dimension.
