Wind promises

I can add to the pack of lies noted by Allan Wilson (Letters, 14 September) from the SNP 2007 manifesto with my own candidate for the biggest lie of all.

I have kept The Scotsman analysis of all the parties’ claims and it clearly states that the SNP position on wind farms differed from that of Labour, with turbines to be mainly offshore.

At the hustings, I asked Christine Grahame, SNP candidate, about the party’s stance and she gave me a one-word reply: “Offshore.”

The election was in May 2007. By September 2007, Alex Salmond was opening the Crystal Rig extension and was quoted in The Scotsman as saying:
“I want Scotland to become a global leader in green energy,
at the forefront of the response to the challenge of climate change.” Onshore wind was the SNP flagship policy from then on.
