Jazz album review: Diana Krall - Quiet Nights
DIANA KRALL Quiet Nights **** Verve 060252 7049359, £12.72
Sultry songstress and pianist Diana Krall's latest CD picks up where her 2001 album, The Look Of Love, left off. Both feature orchestras conducted by Claus Ogerman, who also wrote the sumptuous arrangements, with Krall gently caressing the ivories alongside her jazz quartet. On a couple of the tracks, she sounds a little out of her vocal comfort zone, but overall the interpretations of ballads and bossas are as sexy, husky and soulful as ever.
