Jazz album review: Dick Hyman - Thinking About Bix
DICK HYMAN Thinking About Bix ***** Reference Recordings RR-116, £12.72
If you're having withdrawal symptoms post-jazz festival season then this CD by recent visitor to Scotland Dick Hyman is the solution. A collection of piano arrangements of some of the numbers recorded by the jazz legend Bix Beiderbecke, who died at the age of 28 in 1931, it kicks off with the evocative title track, which Hyman memorably performed in Edinburgh and Nairn, and also includes all four of Beiderbecke's exquisite piano compositions.
