Jade's publicist ready to step in
JADE Goody's publicist, Max Clifford, yesterday said he would tell her "enough is enough" and she should withdraw from the public eye if her condition worsened.
Goody, 27, who is terminally ill with cancer, is recovering in London's Royal Marsden Hospital following emergency surgery to relieve pain in her bowel.
Mr Clifford said: "My attitude to Jade in recent times is, 'Don't you think enough is enough? Don't you think you've got the message out there? The money you wanted for the boys we've made, it's in place, the money is assured'."
Mr Clifford added: "We hope the operation she had will make things a lot more bearable, a lot brighter for her, in the weeks ahead. Jade likes and enjoys the media spotlight – you have to marry all of these things – but if she continues to be in the kind of pain and condition she is in, then my advice increasingly will be, 'Don't you think enough is enough?'"
He said that in the past week or two he had been saying to Goody: "The minute you don't want them taking pictures, I'll ask them not to take pictures, so do let me know."
Asked what would happen when Goody was no longer able to make decisions about publicity for herself, Mr Clifford said: "There is a balance because there's huge public interest and an appetite and support for Jade. It's front-page news virtually every day.
"If she's not well enough to make that decision, I will make that decision for her."
"You have to take on board that it's her life; she's lived her life in the media spotlight for seven years. Those seven years have been the happiest, most self-fulfilling of her life, so she has the right to decide her own fate."
The reality TV star was diagnosed with cervical cancer last August. The disease has since spread to her liver and bowel.
