Jade's partner Tweed held on rape charge

JACK Tweed, the widower of the late Big Brother star Jade Goody, appeared in court yesterday charged with rape.

The 22-year-old club promoter was remanded in custody after appearing at Redbridge Magistrates' Court in east London.

Tweed, from Chigwell in Essex, wore a blue hoodie at the hearing and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

The court heard the alleged offence took place at Tweed's home in Woodford Green, East London, in the early hours of Friday.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody until 21 September to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Several of Tweed's relatives and friends were in court to see him in the dock. His mother, Mary, and younger brother left without commenting.

Tweed was arrested on Friday morning following a complaint from a young woman. She claimed the alleged attack took place after she went to a nightclub in central London on Thursday night.

Another man in his 20s was bailed yesterday pending further inquiries.

A third man, aged 25, was arrested in connection with the rape allegation last night and is in custody at an east London police station.

Yesterday Tweed's spokesman, Mark Thomas, declined to comment on the rape charge.

Reality TV star Jade died from cervical cancer in March, shortly after the couple wed.
