Jack Vettriano marks Salmond's card

A PAINTING by Jack Vettriano will feature on First Minister Alex Salmond's Christmas cards this year. Vettriano, below, said he was "immensely proud and flattered" to have been asked to produce a picture for the card.

Meanwhile, Salmond hailed the Fife-born painter, who is famous for works such as The Singing Butler, as "Scotland's most successful artist".

The image he has donated for the card, Let's Twist Again, will be unveiled at the National Gallery in Edinburgh tomorrow. Later it will be auctioned with the cash raised going to help the charities Bethany Christian Trust, Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres (chosen by Jack Vettriano), Quarriers and Teenage Cancer Trust.

About 50,000 has been raised for charities from the sale of the original paintings and limited edition prints from the First Minister's last three Christmas cards.

Salmond said: "I am delighted that Jack Vettriano has agreed to donate an original canvas to feature on my Christmas card this year. Jack is a great talent, Scotland's most successful artist and a marvellous ambassador for our country."
