It's smiles all round thanks to dental chair
AN UNWANTED dental chair has been shipped from Edinburgh to Kenya by the army to help healthcare in the region.
The specialist chair, which had become surplus to requirements for NHS Lothian, was then taken to the Chogoria Hospital in Kenya.
The transfer was instigated by the health board's consultant in dental public health Colwyn Jones, who visited the region last year.
He said: "I climbed Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya last year and visited Chogoria Hospital while I was out there.
"Their dental department used very old equipment which, despite the ingenuity of the local staff, was essentially beyond repair."
Mr Jones then made contact with the Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and they agreed to transport the chair on their next visit.
