A NATIONAL celebration of gardening is under way at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston.

Gardening Scotland is expected to attract more than 40,000 green-fingered visitors over the weekend.

Highlights include a one-and-a-half-ton giant panda made from turf and floral displays created by 18 medallists from the Chelsea Flower Show.

Among the 400 exhibitors is Ian Barbour of JBA Seed Potatoes, who will attempt to earn a Guinness World Record for exhibiting seed potatoes, with a display of 667 varieties.
