Island event earns Marie Curie £6500

THE Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice in Edinburgh has received a donation of £6500 from the Martyn Bennett Trust.

The money was raised during the Mull Grand Traverse, an event which saw 91 adventurers cycling and walking across the Isle of Mull. The event raised money for the Trust in memory of Martyn, who died of Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 33.

Martyn, a talented musician, was cared for at the Edinburgh Hospice in 2005 and the donation was made in his memory to allow more patients to receive the level of nursing care and support that he did.

David Oxenham, medical director at the Fairmile hospice, said: "We are so pleased to accept this cheque from the Martyn Bennett Trust. I learned a huge amount from Martyn, particularly about stretching the boundaries and I will always remember him with enormous fondness."
