Iraq's uranium legacy in focus
AN exhibition by an acclaimed Japanese photojournalist on the impact of uranium weapons on Iraq's civilian population will open in the Scottish Parliament tomorrow.
Naomi Toyoda made repeated visits to Iraq and tracked the increase in cancers and birth defects after both the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 invasion.
Groups campaigning for an international ban on uranium weapons say UK and US forces used more than 450,000kg of uranium weapons during the two conflicts.
Campaigners say depleted uranium can affect the environment and contaminate water supplies.
