Virgin calls for luggage review after terror trial

VIRGIN Atlantic chiefs yesterday called for a review of hand-luggage restrictions on flights.

Paul Charles, the carrier's director of communications, said the current restrictions, including the rules on carrying liquid, left passengers confused as they varied in airports in different countries.

Mr Charles said: "Maybe now is the time for a review to look at how appropriate the current rules are for taking liquids on board an aircraft.

"There are different rules at different airports around the world, so it would make more sense to review all of these to make sure there's continuity worldwide."

Mr Charles made the call after eight men were tried over an alleged plot to blow up planes using home-made explosives which were disguised as soft drinks.

The current hand-luggage liquid restrictions were imposed following the arrests of the group in August 2006.
