Uruguay moves for equal marriage law

MPS in Uruguay have voted to legalise gay marriage, approving a single marriage law for heterosexuals and homosexuals.

The proposal now goes to the Senate, where the ruling coalition is certain to enact the law. President Jose Mujica plans to sign it into statute next year. It would also let all couples decide whose surname goes first when they name their children.
