Tear gas fired at students in cartoon riot

PAKISTANI police fired tear gas today to disperse hundreds of students who entered Islamabad's diplomatic enclave to protest against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in European newspapers.

The students were driven back after they had approached the Indian and British High Commissions and smashed windows of cars and a bank. Most of the students then ran out of the district.
