John McAfee: Hid from police under cardboard box

Computer security pioneer John McAfee has gone into hiding in Belize claiming police are trying to frame him for the murder of a neighbour, found shot in the head.

Mr McAfee, 67, has been named as “a person of interest” in a murder investigation.

“You can say I’m paranoid about it, but they will kill me, there is no question. They’ve been trying to get me for months,” the magazine Wired quoted Mr McAfee as saying yesterday. “I am not well liked by the prime minister. I am just a thorn in everybody’s side.”

Wired reported that Mr McAfee contacted one of its reporters by telephone after his neighbour Gregory Faull, 52, was found dead on Sunday.

Mr McAfee said he hid in the sand when he saw police coming to his house and put a cardboard box over his head to breathe. Mr McAfee, who amassed a fortune by building the anti-virus company that bears his name, has homes and businesses in the Central American country where police say he has lived for at least two years.

Mr McAfee, who has tattoos, a goatee and moustache and a penchant for guns, has previously seen his premises raided in a search for guns.A police spokesman said. “He is not wanted for murder, but is wanted for questioning as a person of interest.”
