Scare after another quake hits Kashmir

THE disaster-struck region of Kashmir has been hit by another earthquake.

Today's 5.1-magnitude tremors also shook Pakistan's capital Islamabad, and other northern areas.

The quake struck the region where aid workers are rushing to help survivors of an October 8 earthquake that killed 87,000 people and left 3.5 million people homeless.

However, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The quake struck at about 5.30am GMT and was centred about 120 miles north-east of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province, said Mohammed Akram, an official at the Meteorological Department.

The October earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.6 and wreaked havoc and destruction.

Since then there have been more than 1500 aftershocks in the past three months.
