Scandal-hit Gandhi faces voters

SONIA GANDHI, the head of India's ruling Congress party, went before voters today in a bid to regain the parliamentary seat she gave up during a high-profile political scandal.

Ms Gandhi stepped down in March as politicians squabbled over whether she violated a once-obscure election law by holding another government job.
