Salvage mission planned for Titanic
THE TITANIC could be revisited after an application was lodged by the firm which holds exclusive salvage rights to the wreck.
A four day hearing is expected to begin today into the submission by RMS Titanic at a US District Court in Norfolk, Virginia.
The salvage mission, if approved by US District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith, will be the first expedition to the vessel since 2004.
More than a dozen expert witnesses are scheduled to testify.
Lawyers for RMS Titanic confirmed the expedition plans but declined to discuss them in detail.
The wreck of the Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912, is considered a highly sensitive site.
The ship's sinking resulted in the deaths of 1,517 of the 2,223 people on board.
