Royal visit coincides with executions
THE Prince of Wales flew into Indonesia yesterday as tensions heightened ahead of the imminent executions of three Islamic militants convicted of the 2002 Bali bombings.
Prince Charles is there for a five-day visit to highlight the threat to rainforests and promote interfaith dialogue.
But the trip could be overshadowed by the executions of Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim and Ali Ghufron.
The trio were sentenced to death in 2003 for planning and helping to carry out the twin nightclub attacks on Bali that killed 202 people, many of them foreign tourists.
The Indonesian government says the men could be killed within days.
Police said troops are on alert for a potential backlash in the world's most populous Muslim nation.
Charles went straight to the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta after arriving as a mark of respect, and also met leaders of Islamic social organisations.
