Rioters shot as violence continues

Police shot dead four rioters in India’s north-eastern state of Assam yesterday as security forces struggled to contain ethnic fighting that has killed 26 people and forced tens of thousands from their homes.

Rioting between Muslim settlers and Bodo tribespeople has raged for days. Some of the victims died of machete wounds, aid workers said.
