Red Cross resumes Burma prison visits
The Red Cross is to resume visits to detainees in Burma’s prisons next week after a hiatus of seven years.
Peter Maurer, head of the Geneva-based organisation, announced the change after meeting the country’s president, Thein Sein. Restrictions imposed by Burma’s junta have prevented Red Cross prison visits since December 2005.
