Rape protesters on murder charge after officer dies

A POLICE officer injured in clashes with groups protesting in New Delhi after the brutal gang-rape of a woman on a bus has died in hospital.

Police have filed murder charges against some protesters.

Authorities sealed off a high-security zone in the Indian capital for a second day yesterday to put an end to a week of demonstrations.

With police blocking roads in the centre of the city, dozens of protesters gathered at a venue less than a mile from the parliament building yesterday to press the Indian government to ensure the security of women.

The protests have continued despite promises by the government that it will consider the demands that all six suspects who have been arrested following last Sunday’s attack face the death penalty.
