‘Put safety first and end Palio horse race’

ANIMAL rights campaigners called for an end to the Palio bareback horse race in Siena yesterday after six of ten horses collided, injuring one.

The LAV animal rights group said Thursday’s accident on the dirt course in the Italian town’s piazza was the “umpteenth confirmation the Palio needs to put the safety of horses and participants ahead of tradition”.
