Pirates free ship after ransom paid

THE European Union Naval Force yesterday said Somali pirates had freed a Panama-flagged cargo ship and its crew of 26 after a ransom was paid.

Commodore Anders Kallin said the Al Khaliq had 24 Indians and two Burmese sailors on board. There were no details about the ransom payment for the ship, which was hijacked in October west of the Seychelles.
