Obama edges ahead in poll

Barack Obama has extended his narrow lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney, in a United States presidential race that remains very close just nine days before the election, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll last night.

Latest figures showed Mr Obama with 49 per cent of the vote from “likely voters”, compared with 46 per cent
for Mr Romney – a one percentage point increase from Saturday.

Swings could be possible in the remaining days of the campaign, however. Fifteen per cent of registered voters say they could still change their minds and vote for a different candidate.
