Nine-year-old girl gives birth in western Mexico

A NINE year old girl has given birth in Mexico, sparking a police investigation as they attempt to find the alleged father, believed to be a 17-year-old.

The girl, named as Dafne, gave birth to a daughter, after falling pregnant aged just eight.

Lino Gonzalez, a spokesman for Jalisco state police said that the the baby girl was born last week at a Guadalajara hospital and is doing well.

Mr Gonzalez added that the girl’s family contacted the authorities after she gave birth, and claimed the alleged father - who the girl told authorities was her boyfriend - has not been seen in the area since.

The girl’s mother is helping to look after the 5lb 15oz baby, whilst the 17-year-old could face child sex abuse charges if his paternity is proven.

Jorge Villasenor, of the state prosecutor’s office, said: “We are looking for the young man to get his story because the girl does not understand what has happened.”
