Nasa looks at March for shuttle flight
NASA is hoping to resume space shuttle flights in March - 13 months after the Colombia disaster that killed seven astronauts.
The United States space agency has developed a "return to flight" plan for future shuttle missions.
The 78-page plan reveals the steps Nasa has been taking, or is considering, in order to comply with recommendations by the Accident Investigation Board.
Columbia broke up on February 1 as it re-entered the atmosphere from space. The vessel was fatally damaged during launch when a chunk of foam insulation that covered a strut attach point on the external tank peeled off and shattered a thermal protection panel in the left wing.
The Nasa plan, being released officially today, lists a return-to- flight schedule with a March 11 "launch date," but agency spokesman Allard Beutel said the date is for planning purposes and not a foregone conclusion.
