MSP's prison visit blocked
AN MSP yesterday claimed that prison chiefs blocked a visit she had arranged to the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing.
Nationalist Christine Grahame was scheduled to meet Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi in Greenock prison at the weekend – but it was cancelled the night before without explanation.
The Scottish Prison Service said yesterday there were "established procedures" for visits, including appropriate notice.
The MSP has been working with victims' relatives to overturn Megrahi's conviction. She intended to visit him on Sunday but was told on Saturday evening this would not be possible.
"No satisfactory explanation has been offered," she said.
Megrahi, who has prostate cancer, is serving a 27-year minimum sentence.
