Mother who killed her six newborns is jailed for 15 years
A FRENCH woman was jailed for 15 years yesterday for killing six of her newborn babies.
Hours before the official verdict at a Normandy court, Celine Lesage, 38, had pleaded guilty to killing them. "Yes, I killed the babies," she said under questioning.
Bursting into tears, she added: "I did it but … I can't explain it."
The prosecutor had sought a 16-year sentence, with no early release before half the term was served.
Lesage was charged with killing the babies between August 2000 and September 2007, when her then boyfriend found their tiny bodies in bin bags in the basement of their home. Four had been smothered and two strangled.
She was charged with aggravated voluntary homicide and could have been jailed for life.
