Monkey in coat kept under rap

A JUDGE has ruled a pet monkey found wandering outside an Ikea store in Canada will remain at a primate sanctuary for now.

The monkey, named Darwin, was spotted walking around a car park wearing a tiny coat outside the shop in Toronto.

His owner, Yasmin Nakhuda, had asked a court to return Darwin to him, at least until his fate had been decided.

But the judge ruled yesterday that the monkey should stay at the sanctuary until the full case is heard, and Mr Nakhuda will be allowed to visit. Mr Nakhuda argued that animal control officials did not have the authority to take the Japanese macaque to the sanctuary.
