Microsoft boss named new Mali PM

Malian authorities yesterday named Cheick Modibo Diarra, Microsoft’s chairman for Africa, as interim prime minister charged with helping to restore civilian rule to the West African country after last month’s coup.

The coup emboldened Tuareg-led rebels to seize control of the northern half of the West African country, which security experts fear could become a haven for al-Qaeda allies operating there.
