Kabul march as Afghans mark US-led occupation

Hundreds of demonstrators paraded through the streets of the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday to call for the immediate withdrawal of international military forces ahead of the tenth anniversary of the US-led invasion.

The US invasion, which began ten years ago today, came after Taleban leader Mullah Omar refused to hand over Osama bin Laden in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on America.

US forces finally tracked down and killed Bin Laden in a raid on his hideout in Pakistan in May.

The demonstration was organised by a small left-wing party.

In Copenhagen, military officials said a Danish soldier was seriously wounded by an explosive device during an operation in Helmand province.

In south-west Helmand province, insurgents opened fire on a civilian bus, killing a man and a child and wounding 16 others.

And in southern Uruzgan province, a car bomb killed the commander of a highway security force, police said.
