Iran deploys sub near allied exercise

Tehran has deployed one of its Russian-made submarines in the Gulf, just days after the United States, Britain, France and more than two dozen other allies began naval exercises nearby.

The Taregh-1 joined the Iranian fleet in Bandar Abbas after it was overhauled this year, according to state TV. It is one of three Russian submarines that Iran obtained in the early 1990s.
