Harvard's first female president

HARVARD University has named US historian Drew Gilpin Faust as its first female president.

She replaces Lawrence Summers, who caused an uproar when he suggested that genetic differences between the sexes might help explain the dearth of women in top science jobs. Ms Faust emerged as a candidate thought suited to cool tensions.
