Gang held in betting swoop

FIVE Malaysians were arrested and their computers and mobile phones were seized in the latest raid in a crackdown on illegal betting on the Euro 2004 soccer tournament.

Police raided a house in northern Manjung town and arrested the men as they were using the internet and mobile phones to take bets during the tournament’s semi-final clash between Portugal and Holland early yesterday.

Officials said the group had received bets totalling 14 million ringgit (2 million) from gamblers across the country.
