French 'go slow' in Channel lane
FRENCH fishermen yesterday staged a brief "go slow" protest in the Channel as part of their continuing anger over EU fishing quotas.
About 31 fishing vessels sailed north two miles off the coast between Boulogne and Calais, but outside the ferry lanes, before turning back at about 10am.
A Dover Coastguard spokesman said: "There was a protest in the north-east lane of the Channel. Around 31 French fishing vessels joined up, going up the lane very slowly.
"It meant ships in the area had to take avoiding action, but it did not affect ferry services."
