Driver crashes into minefield

A BOSNIAN driver whose car veered off a windy mountain road and rolled down a hillside dotted with landmines from the 1992-95 war was recovering in hospital last night.

Rasim Dzeko’s car slid more than 50 metres off the road before striking a tree on Tuesday. He managed to climb out of the car, but slid another 300 metres down the mined slope before becoming stuck in a water hole for two days.

The 40-year-old was eventually extricated by bomb disposal experts, after a friend raised the alarm. Mr Dzeko and his car was found when rescuers carefully retraced his supposed route.
