British Marine killed on duty
A BRITISH Marine was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan yesterday, while on foot patrol in Sangin, Helmand Province.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith, said: "It is with deep sorrow I must inform you that a Marine from 40 Commando Royal Marines was killed by an explosion in Sangin.
"He died in the course of his duty, seeking to provide reassurance and security to the local nationals in Sangin. His sacrifice will not be forgotten."
His death brings the British death toll since operations began in 2001 to 285.
