Bomber attacks Nato HQ in Kabul
A SUICIDE bomber has blown himself up near Nato headquarters in Kabul, killing at least six people, according to Afghan authorities.
Kabul deputy police chief Daud Amin said the US embassy, Italian embassy and presidential palace are near the site of yesterday’s attack.
Afghan officials said six people were killed and five others wounded.
The attack came as Afghans marked the 11th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the Northern Alliance commander killed in an al-Qaeda suicide bombing two days before the 9/11 attacks. Taleban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the bombing was carried out by a 28-year-old from Logar province, south of Kabul. But police deputy Amin said eyewitnesses had seen a teenage boy carrying a bag in the area.
Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi blamed the attack on the Pakistan-based Haqqani network, one of the most dangerous militant groups fighting coalition forces in Afghanistan.
The Haqqani group, which is linked to both the Taleban and al-Qaeda, has been responsible for several attacks in Kabul and was designated a terrorist network by the US on Friday.
