SEARCHERS will wait until at least October to recover the bodies of three Canadians who died in a plane crash in Antarctica.
Crews managed to reach the Twin Otter plane on Sunday after it crashed last Wednesday near the summit of a mountain in the Queen Alexandra range. They recovered the cockpit voice recorder, which could provide vital information about the cause of the crash.
But US National Science Foundation spokesman Peter West yesterday said crews were unable to safely access the front of the aircraft to reach the victims. He said was too difficult to complete the recovery this summer and so crews will wait.
