200 call Interpol after face of internet paedophile revealed
AROUND 200 people have responded to an international public appeal launched by Interpol to identify a man shown sexually abusing children in images posted on the internet.
Anders Persson, a Swedish police officer in charge of Interpol's child abuse images team, said 200 messages were received within 12 hours of the images of the man's face being released.
"We have a lot of responses and they are coming from all over the world," he said.
Some of the messages include detailed information such as names and addresses, he said.
The man is seen in around 200 photographs, which feature the abuse of 12 young boys.
It has been established that the images were taken in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Although the original photos were digitally altered to disguise the man's face, specialists from Germany's federal police agency, working with Interpol's Trafficking in Human Beings Unit have been able to produce an identifiable image.
