Inspectors impressed by Sick Kids

THE Sick Kids hospital has been praised for the quality of its staff and cleanliness following an inspection.

The Healthcare Environment Inspectorate carried out a two-day assessment of the Sciennes hospital last month.

It highlighted good levels of hygiene and joined-up working between children and adult services, and that infection warnings were created in a child-friendly manner.

Some small failings were noted, like a window that was supposed to be bolted shut having been opened and some fridge temperatures differed.

Jackie Sansbury, NHS Lothian's chief operating officer, said: "We are pleased that today's report recognises the efforts being made by the team at the Sick Kids in both infection control and cleanliness.

"The HEI identified four requirements as a result of their visit, two of these have already been addressed and we will be working to ensure compliance with the remaining two.

"It is reassuring that the HEI found communication between staff to be working well and that parents appear happy with the facts they receive, and with the cleanliness of the wards."
