Infected blood inquiry in city
A PUBLIC inquiry into how blood transfusion patients contracted HIV and hepatitis C is to take place in Edinburgh next week.
There are thought to be around 80 Lothians residents who were affected by the blood contamination scandal, which occurred when blood from prisoners in Scotland and the US was used to help haemophiliacs in the 1970s and 80s.
Campaigners have urged governments on both sides of the Border to investigate the problem, and the Penrose Inquiry - taking place at Clydesdale Bank Plaza from Tuesday - will seek to address how it happened.
